Though there are definitely games with strong stories and characters that take advantage of the facing-front view. It gives them personality outside of their dialogue and story arcs, and I appreciate that.Ī facing-forward view feels more appropriate for games like Etrian Odyssey because (1) the characters in your party, while being protagonists, don't live in a story that revolves around their lives and how they resolve the story's conflicts and (2) being a dungeon crawler, the facing-front view helps add to the immersiveness of feeling like you're trapped in a labyrinth, facing off against a powerful foe. Games that are character-driven I like being able to see the characters fight and succeed in battle. It depends on the games but I think I prefer being able to see the characters in general.
